Car Wrecks, Break-Ins, and Progress

This week, Ben had a dream.

He was walking along the road, and a truck crashed right in front of him. He hurried and ran to the car to help, and there was a man dressed in white. It was God. He grabbed Ben's hand and put it on a golden book, "Learn my word, and tell the world," He said.
Ben woke up and saw Amanda (his girlfriend) reading a Gospel Principles book, and it was the book from his dream.
After this, Ben and Amanda were gone for a week. We talked to them yesterday, and they excitedly told us that they were married!! We were so surprised!! Ben is getting baptized this month, and they have a goal to be sealed in the temple in a year!

We have found 2 amazing families who we are teaching and tried church this Sunday. The Justin and Flora Curley family, and the Claw family! God has guided us to people who are so prepared to follow Christ.

Joseph and his siblings were taken to a children's shelter and we finally gained permission from their social worker to be able to visit them. He is in Ether in the Book of Mormon! That means he is almost done! Joseph is the smartest kid I have ever met. He told us he wants to be the president one day. "I would change a lot around this place," he said. It was so horrible to see how sad the kids are to be away from their grandmother. All they could ask about was if she was okay.

Martha Pete came home this week and was all upset that her house was broken into. We didn't have much sympathy, as she lives in the ghetto and it was only to be expected. But we helped her clean up the house. Used underwear, ash, vodka bottles, the whole deal. I can't wait to be home and have a nice house again, I won't ever take that for granted.

Oh, I've been coughing really bad for 2 weeks now, and finally went to the doc. I have bronchitis! :D Just awesome.

I'm overwhelmed again. This mission is hard. I miss my family a lot. I miss my friends. I miss good alone time, running at night and listening to music. I miss being able to see my siblings every day. I miss the living circumstances at home.

I wouldn't choose to be anywhere else, and I know that there is so much more for me to do here. But keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I love you all so much.
Have an incredible week!

From 3/2:
This week, Joseph's grandma ran off and she still hasn't come home.
We heard about some horrible things going on at the home, and prayed for God to do something about the children.
We went over to try and see if we could do anything, worrying the whole time about what to do, but God had already answered our prayer! Social services investigated the home they often stay during the day and found that they are living with a probable child molester, and the home is completely unfit for children. So they were taken away, and we are trying to work with the social worker to be able to visit Joseph and the kids at the children's shelter they are at. Their grandmother hasn't returned yet, and she may not. Hopefully God can take care of these kids! We know the children's home is much better than their previous circumstances, so we are really happy.
This week has truly worn me down. I am trying to get in a more positive perspective, but when dealing with drugs, molestation, broken families, and  being turned down so often, I have been overwhelmed.
Don't worry, I've had a horrible cold for a week too, so I've been living with a headache and fatigue as a cherry on top :)

Luckily, there have been many miracles this week to show me that God's hand is in my life.

Tyra, a member we are helping prepare for the temple, called us and explained how she had been kicked out of a home, and was jinxed by a traditional curse, according to the people who had harassed her. (Side note: the people here are very superstitious, many people worry about being cursed and witched) She was in a very sketchy part of town, and her car would not start. "Hurry over! I'm not safe!" She yelled. I said, "Tyra, Jesus Christ is more powerful than any tradition. Just calm down and say a prayer, and we will be right there." As we were speeding over to help her out, she called us back a minute later, and explained: "I said a prayer, and my car started! Thanks Hilton!"

Right after that, we went to a lesson with Jacky, who is a new lady we are teaching. She is very serious about learning about the church! She told us that she was very worried for her daughter because she had run out that morning and she was nervous she would hurt herself. We prayed and Elder V asked for Jacky's daughter to return home soon. We began the lesson and 5 minutes later, she walked into the house. Jacky looked at us and smiled, and we just continued the lesson :)

Louella went to the dedication for the Gilbert, AZ temple! And sister Hood was at the session we attended in Window Rock too! First time in the temple! It has been so rewarding to see these people reach their goal of the temple! I love seeing the savior turn lives around.

I was able to feel God's love, and to struggle through a lot of things this week.

I love you all, and miss you a lot.
Hope you have a great week, and don't take your blessings for granted.

Love,
Elder Hilton
